With over 3,000,000 visitors per year and counting, the need to maximize Tahoe Basin transit efficiency, while minimizing its impact on the environment, is becoming increasingly critical. The TTD is currently partnering with local communities on six priority improvements for several locations.
Planned 2012 Construction Incline Gateway - The TTD is acting as in-Basin facilitator for this Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) project. In addition to the main goal of reducing the frequency and severity of traffic accidents, the project is designed to improve the SR28-SR431 intersection's operation and aesthetics while decreasing emissions, noise pollution and erosion/runoff from roadway deterioration. Related utility relocation work was completed in fall 2011, allowing for construction in 2012. more >
America's Most Beautiful Bikeway, South Demonstration Project - Environmental assessment is in progress for a section of the 43-mile Nevada portion of the premier bikeway intended to circle the lake. At the southern end of this segment along U.S. Highway 50 on the East Shore, the 3.2-mile demonstration route will connect the popular Stateline and Round Hill areas. Construction may start as early as summer 2012. more >
Under Evaluation/Consideration America's Most Beautiful Bikeway - This joint undertaking, with local, state, federal and private participation, will provide safer, upgraded biking and walking choices, decreasing private car use, improving air and water quality and protecting the natural environment. It will retrofit and connect existing trail segments with approximately 162 miles of new construction to create a complete network. more >
America's Most Beautiful Bikeway, North Demonstration Project - Alternatives are being proposed for a 3-mile off-road bikeway between Incline Village and Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park-Sand Harbor. Providing safe bicycle/pedestrian access to popular beaches/recreation in this area would also be an important step to reducing vehicle and shoulder-parking impacts on the environment. more >
SR28 National Scenic Byway - The TTD would act as in-Basin facilitator for projects being evaluated for one of the most traveled sections of America's Most Beautiful Drive. Local communities and 12 partnering agencies are proposing and developing traffic-related initiatives to make the area safer for residents and visitors while enhancing their experience. The improvements also focus on protecting/preserving this unique section of undeveloped shoreline. more >
Lake Tahoe Aquabus
- A translake passenger ferry service between the north and
south shores is being evaluated as a relatively low environmental impact alternative to building additional road capacity. more >
US 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project
- Options are being assessed for creating a more
pedestrian-friendly, vital downtown area, while reducing travel time, improving connectivity and reliability, and reducing vehicle emissions. The project would also facilitate community revitalization. more >
SR 89/Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project - Alternatives for resolving the safety and community cultural concerns, related to traffic congestion and the deteriorating condition of Tahoe City's historic bridge, are being explored. more >
Under Construction North Lake Tahoe Bus Shelters - The TTD supports Placer County's ongoing bus shelter construction projects. New and replacement shelters are designed to provide transit passengers with a more comfortable experience, thereby increasing ridership. Economizing with the same basic footprint and frame, the County is customizing the exterior to blend with each shelter's surroundings. Shelters have already been completed in Squaw Valley and Sunnyside, are almost finished in Tahoe Vista and scheduled for 2011 in Tahoe City, Lake Forest and Incline Village.
